When Anna went to visit Elsa at Elsa's ice palace, an accident occurred in which Elsa again unwittingly struck Anna, this time in her heart, with her powers.
History
Prelude
After her icy magic was exposed during the night of her coronation, Elsa fled Arendelle and took residence in her ice palace she built in the North Mountain. Anna, asserting that her sister never meant to harm or threaten anybody, volunteered to go after Elsa herself and rode off on her horse. Unfortunately, she was soon separated from her horse and was forced to continue on her own. Along her journey, she bought some winter gear from Wandering Oaken's Trading Post and Sauna and was joined by Kristoff, Sven the reindeer and Olaf the snowman before arriving at the ice palace.
The Accident
Anna told Kristoff, Sven and Olaf to stay put while she went to talk to Elsa herself. Stepping into the ice palace, Anna was awestruck at the intricate design of its interior. She called for Elsa, who was delighted to see her, but chose to keep some distance from her. Anna apologized to her sister for what happened at the latter’s coronation, to which Elsa harbored no ill will regarding the incident, but suggested that Anna leave the palace.
A minute later, Olaf entered the ice palace and introduced himself to Elsa. Elsa was surprised to see that she had built a living and talking snowman. However, the sight of Olaf also triggered a flashback of an accident that happened when the sisters were young, prompting Elsa to flee upstairs, fearing for Anna’s safety. Anna gave chase to reason with Elsa, but Elsa insisted Anna to leave the palace and go back to Arendelle, where Anna would be safe from her sister's still-unstable powers.
When Anna told Elsa that Elsa had triggered an eternal winter to the kingdom, Elsa became shocked and began to panic, and a blizzard began to swirl around her, growing stronger as her fear intensified. As it reached its peak, Elsa lost control of her powers, causing the blizzard to burst out in all directions, and Anna was struck in the heart by the blizzard.
Elsa was shocked when upon seeing Anna in agony. Just then Kristoff, having heard the commotion, rush to Anna’s side with Olaf, but Anna wouldn't give up on convincing Elsa. Wanting to keep the visitors safe, Elsa conjured a snow beast Marshmallow to throw them out of the palace. Anna, Kristoff, and Olaf manage to lose Marshmallow by falling down a cliff, though not before Marshmallow warned them not to come back.
Aftermath
Once again in solitude, Elsa desperately made attempts to seize control over her powers and the curse that had been unleashed by concealing her emotions as her mind scattered in thought. Unfortunately, she lost control over her powers once again, as the guilt of endangering Arendelle had completely overcome her, causing ice shards to fill her once-beautiful palace; the walls’ design grew darker and fearful, matching a “monster” Elsa feared she had become.
Meanwhile, after escaping Marshmallow, Kristoff noticed that Anna’s hair was turning white. Deducing that it was from Elsa striking her in the heart and believing he had a solution, he brought her to the Valley of the Living Rock, where his family of trolls reside. The Grand Pabbie, having sensed strange magic, appeared after the trolls arranged a wedding between Kristoff and Anna. Kristoff brought Anna to Pabbie, who informed her that there was ice in her heart, placed by her sister, and that only an act of true love could thaw a frozen heart. Assuming that a kiss from Hans is what Anna needed, Kristoff took Anna back to Arendelle.
