"Do You Want to Build a Snowman?" is a song written by Robert Lopez and Kristen Anderson-Lopez and song sung by Anna (Agatha Lee Monn, Katie Lopez and Kristen Bell), with additional dialogue by Elsa (Eva Bella and Spencer Lacey Ganus), in the 2013 Disney animated film, Frozen.

During the song, a five-year-old[1] Anna tries to convince Elsa to come outside of her room to play once she became isolated due to her powers. When Elsa's power begin to become stronger, her father gives her a pair of gloves to wear. Anna, now nine-years-old[2], continues to try and convince Elsa to come out to play.

Years later, their parents left on a ship for a two-week trip; however, a powerful storm caused a huge wave to consume the ship and destroy it, causing the king and queen's deaths. Fifteen-year-old Anna, who has just returned from her parents' funeral, went to comfort Elsa about their future together.

Five-year-old Anna: Elsa?
Do you wanna build a snowman?
Come on, let's go and play!
I never see you anymore
Come out the door
It's like you've gone away

We used to be best buddies
And now we're not
I wish you would tell me why!

Do you wanna build a snowman?
It doesn't have to be a snowman...

Eight-year-old Elsa: Go away, Anna.

Anna: Okay, bye...

Nine-year-old Anna: Do you wanna build a snowman?
Or ride our bike around the halls?
I think some company is overdue
I've started talking to
The pictures on the walls!

Hang in there, Joan.

It gets a little lonely
All these empty rooms
Just watching the hours tick by...

Fifteen-year-old Anna: Elsa, please I know you're in there
People are asking where you've been
They say, "have courage" and I'm trying to
I'm right out here for you
Just let me in

We only have each other
It's just you and me
What are we gonna do?

Do you wanna build a snowman?

  • There is also an instrumental version of "Do You Want to Build a Snowman?".
  • The younger versions of the sisters are sung by Agatha Lee Monn and Katie Lopez (Jennifer Lee and Kristen Andersen Lopez's daughters, respectively).
  • The title of the song is what Anna asked Elsa in the beginning of the movie, which made Elsa get up and play with her powers.
  • In Frozen: Book of the Film Anna attempted building a snowman outside herself, but fails because she has no help.
  • According to The Story of Frozen: Making a Disney Animated Classic, "Do You Want to Build a Snowman?" almost didn't make the final cut of the movie. The song was taken out and put back a few times until ultimately, as the release was fast approaching, there was a final call to place it back in.
