Duke of Weselton's relationships

This is a compilation of the Duke of Weselton's relationships with other characters from Frozen. Despite having relationships with the other characters, none are exactly positive. Upon being escorted to his ship to leave Arendelle, he has lost allies, rather than gained any.

Bodyguards

The Duke's bodyguards naturally accompany him to Arendelle for the festivities; however, it appears that the Duke is the only dignitary who has his guards constantly in his presence. When Elsa's powers are revealed, and after becoming tired and angered with the situation, he sends his guards on Hans' quest to find Anna and orders them to kill the queen, should they encounter her. He has full faith in his guards that they will carry out his word, oblivious to the power that Elsa possesses.

The Duke found himself at odds with Hans' actions as interim leader of Arendelle.

Hans and the Duke do have a slight conflict, though these are somewhat minute in relation to others. The first is when Hans is helping Anna argue a case for Elsa, and the second is when the Duke confronts Hans over the situation; although the citizens of Arendelle appreciate Hans' good will, the Duke is agitated by his giving out of tradable goods, and also Hans' willingness to meet the needs of someone who may be "conspiring with a wicked sorceress". Hans then threatens to charge him with treason, which takes the Duke by surprise.

Later on, however, the mood changes when Hans purports on the death of Anna; the Duke displays remorse at this, and agrees with the death sentence handed out by Hans for Elsa.

The Duke arrived in Aredelle with the intention of unlocking Arendelle's secrets and exploiting its riches through trade; being the queen and leader, Elsa was the way to get to this goal. At first, the Duke was polite and respectful to Elsa, even offering her a dance, but she politely said no on account that she "didn't dance", and told him her sister, Anna, did. After Elsa's powers were revealed, the Duke saw it fit to reveal that he knew there was something dubious going on. He ordered his men to stop her, causing Elsa to become more distressed and further lose control of her power, accidentally blasting ice at the Duke. This caused him and his guards to slip over. After he regained his composure to some degree, the Duke outwardly declared Elsa to be a "monster".

When Hans asked for volunteers to help him find Anna, the Duke offered up his bodyguards and told them to end the winter by killing Elsa should they encountered her. Later, after Hans lied to him and the dignitaries about Anna's death at Elsa's hand, the Duke declared that Elsa was undoubtedly a monster and advocated that decisive action be taken against her. After Arendelle was thawed, the Duke was upset to hear that Elsa had cut trading ties with Weselton, never wanting anything to do with his place of origin again.

It should be noted that a lot of the Duke's actions were borne out of fear, and so this caused him to act irrationally, only considering his own welfare. The problem with him is that even when he was kind, it was only when he wished to meet an end; he was all too happy to dance with Elsa to win her over, but as soon as the situation did not go in his favor, he altered his view, and would see Elsa killed if necessary. His view towards Elsa and her power is somewhat myopic, and with his prejudices and an inflated view of his self-worth, this outcome is rather predictable.
