Frozen II is an upcoming American animated film and sequel to Frozen.

Plot

Why was Elsa born with magical powers? The answer is calling her and threatening her kingdom. Together with Anna, Kristoff, Olaf and Sven, she'll set out on a dangerous but remarkable journey.

Development

It was officially announced on March 12, 2015 at the Annual Meeting of Shareholders[1] that a sequel to Frozen was in the works, an announcement that was later verified by Jennifer Lee on her Twitter account.[2]

Eva Bella has been confirmed to return to voice young Elsa.[3]

On November 5, 2015, Peter Del Vecho said while visiting Duke University: "We're excited by the ideas we have, but it's too early to talk about them. We wouldn't be making a sequel if we felt that we didn't have a story to tell that was equal to or greater than the original."[4]

On March 17, 2016, Kristen Bell revealed to E! Online that the voice recordings will start in April of the same year,[5] following that in an interview for The Boss, she said that the filmmakers have got the whole story while doing several tweaks.[6]

On April 25, 2017, the film's release date was confirmed to be November 27, 2019.[7]

On November 1, 2018, Disney announced that it was moved up a few days from November 27, 2019, to November 22.

On February 13, 2019, Disney released the official teaser trailer, revealing that it was retitled as Frozen II.

On June 11th, Disney released the first official theatrical trailer.

Trivia

  • Frozen II will take place three years after the original film.
  • The teaser trailer became the most viewed animation trailer of all time, with a record-breaking 116.4 million views in 24 hours.
  • The second trailer currently stands at 20 million views.
  • Frozen II was originally set to be released sometime after the film Gigantic, though their order of release was switched after a major shift in premiere schedules for Walt Disney Pictures films.
  • It will be released on the 2nd anniversary of Olaf's Frozen Adventure, and the 24th anniversary of the original Toy Story.
