This page documents an official policy.

It is a widely accepted standard that should be followed by all editors.

Blocking is the method by which administrators may prevent users from editing on the Wiki. Blocks are used as a preventive measure against disruptive edits, not as a punishment to users.

Requesting blocks[]

Any user may request a block via the reporting office or by messaging an administrator on his or her wall. Requests need to be substantiated with clear evidence of disruptive behavior. Administrators are not obligated to issue a block and are free to investigate the situation themselves.

Blocks are subject to review and appeals, so it is important for the administrators to communicate with each other. Blocked users wishing to appeal the block may do so by posting on their wall. No administrator should undo another's block without discussion. Blocks must be given proper reasoning.

Reasons for blocking[]

Users or IP addresses may be blocked for disrupting the Wiki; these reasons include, but are not limited to:

  • Repeated acts of vandalism or spam
  • Personal attacks on or harassing other users
  • Edit warring
  • Sockpuppetry
  • Inappropriate usernames
  • Attempts at block evasion

Wherever possible, an administrator should seek to communicate with a disruptive user and attempt to rectify their behavior before considering a block. Administrators cannot issue a block simply over a disagreement with a user; such an action goes against the user equality policy and will be met with sanctions.

Block duration[]

The duration of a block should depend on the severity of the behavior and the likelihood of its repetition. Generally, the first block should be of a short duration; lengths increase over time whenever a further block is required.
