"Into the Unknown" is a song written by Robert Lopez and Kristen Anderson-Lopez, and sung by Elsa (Idina Menzel) with additional vocals by the Norwegian female singer, AURORA, in the 2019 Disney animated film, Frozen II. The song also is featured at the end credits of the film, sung by Panic! at the Disco.

During the song, Elsa is awoken in the middle of the night by the voice. She tries to explain away and ignore it; however, she finds it alluring, and after admitting she does not feel she is where she is supposed to be, Elsa summons her magic. It takes on a mind of its own and shows her a forest and four elemental spirits. At the end of the song, she expresses her wish to follow the voice, and summons thousands of ice crystals that contain representations of the four elements, suspended in the air across Arendelle.

Voice: Ah-ah-ah-ah

Elsa: I can hear you — but I won't.
Some look for trouble
While others don't.
There's a thousand reasons
I should go about my day
And ignore your whispers
Which I wish would go away, oh-oh

Voice: Ah-ah-ah-ah

Elsa: Oh-oh

Voice: Ah-ah-ah-ahh-ah-ah

Elsa: You're not a voice.
You're just a ringing in my ear
And if I heard you (which I don't)
I'm spoken for, I fear.

Everyone I've ever loved is here within these walls
I'm sorry, secret siren, but I'm blocking out your calls.
I've had my adventure, I don't need something new!
I'm afraid of what I'm risking if I follow you

Into the unknown...
Into the unknown...
Into the unknown!

Voice: Ah-ah-ah-ah

Elsa: What do you want?
'Cause you've been keeping me awake.
Are you here to distract me
So I make a big mistake?
Or are you someone out there who's a little bit like me?
Who knows deep down I'm not where I'm meant to be?
Every day's a little harder as I feel my power grow!
Don't you know there's part of me that longs to go...

Into the unknown?
Into the unknown!
Into the unknown!!

Voice: Ah-ah-ah-ah

Elsa: Oh-oh-oh
Are you out there?
Do you know me?
Can you feel me?
Can you show me?

Voice: Ah-ah-ah-ah!

Elsa: Ah-ah-ah-ah!

Elsa and voice: Ah-ah-ah-ah

Elsa (voice): Where are you going?
Don't leave me alone!
How do I follow you (ah-ah-ah-ah)
Into the unknown? (ah-ah-ah!)

  • The voice uses a chant from the Latin hymn "Dies irae", which is sung in a Mass for the dead in Christian traditions. Robert Lopez describes it as being used because of its association with "death and danger".[1]
